Screw Conveyor

Screw Conveyor

A screw conveyor is a mechanism in which a rotating, helical screw, known as a helix, is mounted in a tube or trough to transport powdery or granular materials. Screw conveyors are used in many branches of industry. Depending on the type of material to be conveyed, screw conveyor systems can also operate as feeders, conveyors, or dosers. The performance of a screw conveyor is proportional to the pitch of the screw blades and the motor speed.
Working Principle:

Screw conveyors consist of a trough, a helical in the trough, a shaft connected to the helical and a drive unit. The axial movement of the helical connected to the rotating shaft carries the materials with a translational movement. The main element in screw conveyors is the helical wrapped around a shaft. The helical shaft is mounted on the helical housing at the beginning and end. If the helical is too long, it should be placed on hanger bearings at intervals. Since the presence of hanger bearings in a helical significantly reduces efficiency and causes blockages in the helicals, the use of hanger bearings should be avoided as much as possible.
